The 3-Step Plan That’s Helping More Men Lose Weight on Semaglutide

Let’s be honest—when it comes to weight loss conversations, men often get left out. But if you’re a guy trying to lose weight (or you're supporting a partner, son, or friend who is), and you're on semaglutide or any GLP-1 medication, this is a conversation worth having.

I’ve worked with so many men who’ve started their journey with high hopes, only to hit the same frustrating wall: initial weight loss, followed by a plateau or bounce-back. And more often than not, they’re told to just “stick with it.”

But real, lasting change doesn’t come from medication alone. It comes from addressing the deeper systems that affect how your body loses weight, holds onto fat, and rebounds when the injection stops.

Here’s the three-step plan I wish more men knew about from day one.

Step 1: Fix Insulin Resistance First

Most guys starting semaglutide already have some degree of insulin resistance—even if they don’t know it yet. That’s why it’s so important to test for fasting insulin, A1C, and basic metabolic health markers before doing anything else.

The goal with semaglutide isn’t to stay on it forever—it’s to help reset your metabolism by giving your insulin receptors just enough stimulation to start working efficiently again. The mistake many people make is assuming higher doses mean faster results. But in reality, pumping your body with too much too fast can make it dependent on the drug—and make coming off it a complete disaster.

What works better? A lower, strategic dose that helps turn down food noise and gives you back control—without shocking your system. It sets the stage for sustainable fat loss and a much smoother transition when you’re ready to taper off.

Step 2: Optimise Your Hormones

This one’s big, especially for men over 40. Hormones drive everything—from fat storage and muscle retention to energy, sleep, and mood. If your testosterone is low (and it often is), your body won’t respond to weight loss efforts the way it should. And if estrogen is high—thanks to excess body fat converting testosterone—you’ll feel sluggish, gain belly fat, and lose muscle more easily.

This is why getting a full hormone panel is so important. You need to know where your testosterone and estrogen are before starting a GLP-1 medication. Sometimes, supporting your body with the right therapy—whether that’s supplements, peptides, or hormone replacement—makes all the difference in not just losing weight, but keeping it off.

Your body isn’t fighting you. It’s just waiting for the right support.

Step 3: Control the Inflammation

Even if the weight is coming off, you might still feel inflamed—bloated, achy, low-energy, or just “off.” That’s not normal, and it’s often a sign your digestive system or immune system is under stress.

When we look at things like CRP, ESR, and other inflammatory markers, they can reveal just how hard your body is working in the background. You might be eating clean and working out, but if your gut is inflamed, your progress will slow down—and rebound weight is much more likely once you stop the medication.

What works is finding the right plan for your body. That could mean cutting back on alcohol, cleaning up your gut health, reducing food triggers, or even tailoring your supplements. It’s not about being perfect—it’s about understanding what helps you feel and function better.

This Isn't Just About Weight—It's About Feeling Like Yourself Again

Weight loss isn’t just about shrinking your waistline. It’s about getting your energy back. Feeling confident in your own skin. Waking up clear-headed. Being present for the people you love.

GLP-1 medications like semaglutide can be a powerful tool—but they work best when paired with the right support, testing, and strategy for your body.
